2nd of 5 grad quilts finished!

History is a great teacher.  So many "new" patterns are heritage blocks with cute new names.  And some new patterns have updated piecing techniques, sizing info, etc that make their purchase worthwhile.
Here is a great example:  this is the Kansas Twister block, mega sized by Jaybird (but she calls it Ballerina.)

and, of course, Jaybird's Ballerina http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2012/05/ballerina.html

The back with two Ballerina / Kansas Twister blocks!  Loved using Jaybird's Ballerina pattern because it is so large and fast!

FMQd a loose stipple on the body of the quilt
and in the accent red blocks I did a tighter stipple.
You can see the difference in today's first pic of the blocks.

One important thing I learned is to mark where the crossgrain side of the triangle is to prevent having a bias edge on the straight edge of the blocks.  I will show this in the blog post for the whole quilt.

Let's make a whole Ballerina quilt!

Thank you! I like to add a little interest/sass/splash on the backs and I wanted to experiment with the 60 degree block in the Ballerina pattern, so... the contrast needed it worked well with those fabrics!
