Genesis of all Fan quilts: Found!

Finally.  I finally noticed on Cotton Way's home page the magazine cover that started my quilting LOVE.

Not sure if I ever actually looked in the magazine or just saw the cover at my fav haunt, Barnes & Noble and their magazine section. I cannot tell the date from this blurry, enlarged jpeg of the cover.

Not sure of anything but that:  the cover of that magazine hooked me. The colors, the simplicity that provides clarity, the idea of negative space in a quilt (a new thought for a non-quilter), and it looked as if it would be FUN to make.  In Feb 2011 I made my first fans quilt after the tsunami in Japan as a relief quilt.
I loved making this quilt so much that I made 3 just the same.
I know... novice move...
Two were sent to the Tsunami Relief efforts and one I kept.

Many thanks to Bonnie & Camille.  You added a new dimension to my life and the lives of family, friends, and complete strangers.
Mini Fan Quilt for Baby Ruth

Mini Fans (4 fans from each charm square)

Joan's Queen Plus quilt for granddaughter

One of the original Fans for Japan.

I think this is the 3rd of the 3 of a kind Fans for Japan.  This one I kept.

I LOVE everyone of your fan quilts! They are so sweet. After seeing all your pictures on your blog I've been thinking about making one (or two). :-)

You've only been quilting since 2011???? Seriously? I love your style.

Oh, thank you! I watercolor more than quilt. We only had sons. Tall (6'6") sons, so my sewing machine was only used when I made them pajamas that would fit them and cutting off pants they had outgrown and hemming them into shorts.

But when grandbabies came along: I wanted to make them quilts! And dear Aunts & Uncles were getting older and I wanted to make them quilts. And disasters occurred, such as the Fukishuma (sp) Japan Tsunami happened and I wanted to make them quilts.

So... I learned to quilt. And I quickly fell in love with fabric. Three months after my first 6 quilts had to be sent out to a longarmer, I bought my first long arm and 10 months later I threw that one away and bought a Gammill. Weeeeeooooooo! All thanks to the magazine cover featuring Bonnie & Camille's Fun & Easy Fan quilt.

Beautiful!! Those fan quilts are all quite wonderful - there's nothing like some curved piecing in a quilt! :-)
